About the role:
At Hex, we believe that how we lead matters more than almost anything else.
Leads drive the experience of what it feels like to work at Hex: how feedback is given, how performance is managed, how people grow, and whether teams stay aligned as we scale. They are our single biggest lever on retention and we take that responsibility seriously.
As Hex continues to scale this year, we’re investing in the people infrastructure that helps Leads do their best work. We’re hiring our first People Partner to partner with this group and help define what it means to be a Lead at Hex.
This role exists to bring clarity, consistency, and partnership to leads so they can spend their time coaching, building, and shipping, rather than guessing at people decisions.
What you will do:
- Make the leads an extension of the People team. Partner closely with Leads to help them make strong decisions on performance, growth, org design, and team health. The goal is not to centralize decisions in People, but to equip Leads with the judgment and tools to lead well on their own.
- Protect retention by catching issues early. Strong cultures don’t break overnight they erode when issues go unnoticed or unaddressed. You’ll help Leads spot performance concerns, misalignment, and team health risks early, and partner with them to address issues quickly and thoughtfully.
- Drive accountability and consistency. Hold Leads to clear, shared standards around people practices like PTO, leave hygiene, and communication, so teams experience fairness and clarity as we scale.
- Define performance management at Hex. You’ll help define what strong performance looks like and how we manage it clearly, fairly, and in a Hex way. That includes supporting underperformance when needed and ensuring our highest-impact contributors are recognized, challenged, and retained.
- Partner on complex employee matters. Partner on investigations, terminations, and other sensitive situations with sound judgment, balanced risk tolerance, and care for the people involved.
About You:
- Has 7+ years of experience as an HRBP or People Partner, ideally in high-growth tech environments
- Has partnered deeply with senior leaders and understands what strong leadership looks like in practice but equally excited to help early leads grow
- Is comfortable building foundational programs from scratch and running them end to end
- Brings excellent judgment and balanced risk tolerance
- Is direct, thoughtful, and human in difficult situations
- Cares deeply about leadership quality, retention, and long-term company health
In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.
The salary range for this role is: $185,000 - $240,000
The salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to. Placement in the salary range will be decided upon completion of the interview process, taking into account factors like leaving room for growth, internal fairness & parity, your demonstrated skills, and the depth of your experience. Our Recruiting team will be able to provide more details during the interview process.
